What is psychoanalytic psychotherapy?

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a talking treatment rooted in the work of Sigmund Freud and developed by figures such as Jacques Lacan. It is grounded in the belief that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are often shaped by unconscious forces—those parts of ourselves that remain just out of reach, yet profoundly influence our relationships, choices, and sense of self.

In this work, you are invited to speak freely and openly, in a space where you are not judged or directed. Over time, patterns begin to emerge—traces of early experiences, repetitions in relationships, and the unspoken logic of desire.

Rather than offering advice or strategies, the work of the analyst is to listen—closely and attentively—to what is said, and also to what is not said. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy offers a space in which something unexpected can occur: the possibility of speaking differently, and living with greater awareness and freedom.
